A new thing… God has been doing a “new thing” here at Christian Services in 2008. We have had a change in leadership on the staff as well as on our board. Churches are doing ministry in a variety of ways which challenges Christian Services to look at different ways to serve them. God is doing a “new thing” in the lives of the families and individuals being served by the church network. They are being challenged in Quality Living and IMAGE to look at themselves in a different way—through God’s eyes—and to make positive changes in order to become financially, emotionally and spiritually healthy. Sparrow’s Nest is doing a “new thing” with 2 churches placing 2 at-risk families in permanent, affordable housing. Christian Services and the church ministry teams provide support services, QL budgeting, and ongoing encouragement to help the families become successful and leave the risk of homelessness behind. Even with all that is new and changing, there is a constant. The church network ministries continue to serve week after week, all year long to help people in crisis in our community with clothing, food, personal items, household items, furniture, and so much more. They have opened up their church buildings to serve and show Christ’s love, and are supported by the generous church network who mobilize their congregations to serve through collecting, donating and volunteering.
Our world is always changing, and especially right now, things seem precarious. What an amazing God we have, who is ever constant in who he is, and ever new in what he can do in our lives. Christian Services continues to seek His will in serving His church as we support and build ongoing ministries together to help change lives in our community. |

A Report From a Quality Living Budgeting Class Coordinator: We have a wonderful class with almost 100% attendance weekly. There is lots of sharing, interacting, helping each other, and just good hard work. There have been individual setbacks, but people talk about their mistakes and then move in positive ways. Tammy’s goal this year was to work on savings and in the first three months she has saved $400! This is awesome based on her income and she is living independently for the first time in her life. Lisa is doing well. She is applying for a job and really thinks she will get it. She is excited. Her family is healthy right now—getting her children their own doctors has really made a difference in her life and she feels blest. Amy’s budget counselor has been so helpful to her. She needs support as a new widow and is doing a great job with her money. She has opened up and now shares regularly. Carol has paid all her bills on time for the first time last month and she has paid a month ahead for rent and a utility! She is getting more hours and working hard to keep them. She fought us with the money accountability, but we are still friends. It is hard to change, but it is possible!
I wish more churches would get the vision for this life changing process and work with families long term in Quality Living. It is very rewarding to those of us who do. |

Families in need call or are referred to the Christian Services Clearinghouse for help. Our wonderful volunteers listen carefully to each person, and respond with kindness and love to find the church or community resources that can meet their need. They also encourage them to get involved in an IMAGE class to help them make positive changes they want in their lives. |
